DIY Dog Birthday Party Invitations

When making my own DIY party decorations, I love using Canva! One of the best parts about this user-friendly design platform is that you can use templates to make things super easy! If you're interested in creating your own DIY dog birthday party invitations but you aren't sure where to start, I suggest grabbing my dog themed invitation template!

After purchasing the template, you can access it in Canva and adjust the invitation to suit your own party! Since the template is completely customizable, you can change the:

  • Wording. Change any of the text on the invitation to create your own invite. In addition to adjusting the name, date, and location of the party on the template, you can also change the heading and phrases to use your own invitation wording.
  • Colors. Swap out any of the colors on the invitation to fit your own party's color theme.
  • Fonts. Change the font on the invitation to suit your own style.
  • Graphics. Change or remove any of the graphics to adjust the invitation to fit your own style or theme of the party.

First, let's talk about how to change the wording on you're invitation. If you like the design and the colors, the wording is the easiest element to change! Simply click on the word or phrase you want to change, then select the word and start typing. If your text size needs to be adjusted, you can click on the box surrounding the words and pull any of the four corners in or out. Pulling in will make the text smaller and pulling out wil make it larger.

After adjusting the wording, you can also change the color of any element on your DIY invitation. To change the color, just selet the element you want to change, then click the colored square in the top menu. This will up the color menu, allowing you to select any color you want. You can choose from the default colors or add your own color by picking the plus sign at the top of the menu.

If one of the elements has more than one color in it, like the banner or party hats, you'll need to first select the color you want to change from the different colored squares in the top menu. Then, you can select what color you want to use to replace it.

To replace all the same color in the invitation, start by selecting an element with the color you want to replace. Then, select the color you you want to use to replace the color in the invitation. After making your color selection, you'll see an option at the bottom of the color menu to replace all. Simply check the box to replace all the colors on the invitation at once.

In addition to changing the colors on the invitation template, you can also replace the fonts on your DIY dog party invitation. To change the font, select the word or phrase you want to change, then click the font drop down at the top of the page. This will open the font menu. From there, you can select a new font from the menu.

In this menu, you can also adjust the size and alignment of the words, in addition to adding effects. The "Come Sit Stay" section of the text has an effect added to it. To remove or adjust that effect, select "Effects" from the top menu. This will open the effects menu, allowing you to remove, resize, and change the color of the font effect.

The last element you can change in these DIY dog themed birthday invitations is the graphics. You can remove or replace any of the graphic elements in the template, including the:

  • Dogs. Remove or replace the dog graphics at the bottom of the banner by selecting each dog and adjusting as needed.
  • Background. Remove the striped background or change the background to a different design.
  • Border. Take away the black border, replace it with a new border, or change the color by selecting it.
  • Banner. Delete the banner to add more text or replace it with a different banner.
  • Pawprints. You can also remove or change the paw prints on top of the banner. If you remove the original banner, you'll also need to remove or move the paw prints separately.

To find new graphics to add to your invitation, select "elements" from the left sidebar. Here, you can choose from a variety of different elements, including shapes, backgrounds, and graphics. Use the search bar at the top of the menu to search for specific elements. Or simply scroll through the options to see what's available.

How to Print a DIY Dog Party Invitation

Once you're satisified with your design, you can print your invitations! There are several different options for printing your DIY invitations, including:

Then, put some cardstock in your printer and print out enough invitations to send to all your guests. You'll need to cut out each invitation after it's printed so it fits inside an envelope.
  • Canva. You can order prints directly from Canva to make things super simple.
  • Local printers. Using local printers, like Wal-Mart or Walgreens photo printing, is a great way to get your invitations right away. You can usually pick up your prints the same day you order them.
  • Photo printing services. Websites like Shutterfly also offer invitation printing. Download your invitation and upload it into the service to create your own invitation prints.

When using a printing company, you'll need to download your invitation as a PNG or JPEG. Make sure to select a high quality download to ensure your invitations look amazing when they're printed. Downloading your invitation in this format is also perfect for sending digital invites.
